This made for Silvertone by Danelectro model 1457 outfit was sold by Sears from 1964-1966. These Danelectro/Silvertone amp in case models began in 1962 with the model 1458 black one version with the smaller pickguard that doesn't surround the neck pickup. In 1963 the model 1459 was introduced, which was identical only with two pickups. In 1964 the 1457 showed up in red with the larger pickguard, replacing the 1459. The 1458 was still sold along with the 1457. In 1967 there were two different also by Danelectro but with a different body design with rounded front bouts. The models were 1451 and 1452 for the one and two PU versions. So this guitar is definitely from 64-66. I have a bunch of the old Sears catalogs, which is where I'm getting this info from. I am the second owner of this guitar. I bought it in the early 1980's from the original owner, who bought it new as a teenager, but didn't continue playing and it had been in the Being around the same age as the owner this model had also been my first guitar, which was why, when saw this in a classified ad, I drove several hours into the next state to buy it. This guitar, case and amp are all in very good condition. The foot switch is missing. Otherwise all original. No The Guitar: Original Danelectro lipstick tube pickups. The electronics are surprisingly clean considering the age the fact that I haven't really used it that much. It's been more of a showoff piece. The tuners turn easily. None of the shafts are bent and they hold tune. There's a quarter inch piece of the outer layer of binding torn away at the tail strap button. There's a green colored smudge – probably removable - on the binding the upper rear bout, and a small rub mark on the top front bout binding where it rubs against the inside of the case. There are no scratches or scrapes anywhere on the red surface of the body. If you reflect the light just right you can see imprints here and there of cords and straps that have been closed in the case in contact with the surface. You can see the footprints of these objects. There is nothing into the finish, which is otherwise shiny all over. No worn spots. The pickguard is still mostly shiny. Not a lot of pick action. This wasn't played a lot. The frets show only minimal wear. There are no finger divots worn into the fretboard. The neck has a very slight relief ... just about where you want it. Not enough to be an issue but not a perfect straight edge. See pics. I measure the action at 1/8 in. at the 12th fret, from top of fret to bottom of string. There's a tilt neck adjustment, much like a CBS Fender, so you can lower it more. I'm not getting any buzzing where it is now. There is a finish blem on the back of the neck near where it would rest on a guitar stand. There's a worn spot through the finish near the bottom edge of the 4th fret that is from where it rubs against the amp mount inside the case. There's a block of wood that the amp housing is attached to that meets the at that spot. There is some finish missing from the edges of the headstock. The nut is metal .. aluminum? The wooden bridge piece adjusts for intonation and pivots at the center so you can angle it if need be. Where it is now the intonation is right on. Something maybe rare here. Most of these I've seen have a lesser .. cheaper? paint job to the neck, with a spray from directly behind that tapers off to bare wood at the edges of the fretboard. This neck has a full paint cover. I thought maybe that indicates they cheapened the process way by saving whatever steps were involved covering the entire neck? Maybe during the run the necks came from
